The Young Adult Library Services division of the American Library Association awards the Alex to any adult book that would be a great read for teens as well. Check out the list here (with the cover art) and below:
- City of Thieves by David Benioff
- The Dragons of Babel by Michael Swanwick
- Finding Nouf by Zoe Ferraris
- The Good Thief by Hannah Tinti
- Just After Sunset: Stories by Stephen King
- Mudbound by Hillary Jordan
- Over and Under by Todd Tucker
- The Oxford Project by Stephen Bloom
- Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow (a sweet werewolf tale set in L.A.)
- Three Girls and Their Brother by Theresa Rebeck
I really want to read Sharp Teeth and Three Girls and Their Brother and City of Thieves. And King is always fun. What looks good to you?

Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta was just awarded the Printz this morning! The runners-up include The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing: the Kingdom on the Waves by M.T. Anderson, Nation by Terry Pratchett (one of my favorite authors ever), Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan, and The Dispreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart.
I’m reading Tender Morsels right now, and it is amazingly dark. And the E. Lockhart book rules. Go check them all out.

Did you hear President Barack Obama’s address to the nation this morning, or had a chance to ponder exactly what he had to say? How does his compare to other speeches?
Check out the history of the presidential inaugural speeches with the New York Times interactive page Inaugural Words: 1789 to the Present. Explore the word cloud generated from each speech. It’s pretty cool. You can click on the word and see how many times that president used it, as well as the many times other presidents used that word too.
Share How That Makes you Feel
Also, don’t miss what other students have to say from the Worcester academy and sharemyinauguration.com as they youtubed, flickred and tweeted their thoughts about today’s inauguration.
