Allison Renner and Jasmine Perks won our grand prizes in the Teen Summer Reading Contest this year, winning the silver iPod Nano and the FLIP digital video camcorder respectively. Congratulations!!

So, what’s next here at the library? Well, before we go traipsing into the future, let’s ponder for a moment. Anything we could do differently in our summer reading contest for next year? We’re showing some fun films at our Teen Flix events in August, including _The Last Song_ and _Percy Jackson and the Olympians_. Check out calendar link or check back here for dates and times. Also, get ready for the Hunger Games Party to celebrate the release of the third book in the trilogy—Mockingjay. I must admit, I’m chomping at the bit for this one. Are you ready?

It’s Summer Reading Time!

Tomorrow–that’s Saturday, June 5th–marks the start of our summer reading contest: Make Waves @ Your Library! Enter for a chance to win an iPod Nano, a FLIP digital video camcorder, or weekly Wal-Mart gift cards. Sign up at the AV desk. Click on our Summer Reading page at the top of this blog to find out more details.

Our first teen event is Monday, June 7th. Decorate the library sidewalks and enjoy a cold treat with our “Root Beer Floats and Sidewalk Chalk” program. We’ll meet outside first, then come inside to have root beer or coke floats. Don’t miss out!

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development again is sponsoring the “Young Hoosiers Conservation Corps.” Teenagers in 91 counties (all except Marion) are eligible to apply for summer employment with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Toasted Cheese/Teen Lit Day/Stephenie Meyer’s New Book

+Join us tomorrow, April 14th, at our next Common Threads program for toasted cheese sandwiches (also known as grilled cheese)! We’ll be meeting in the story room downstairs at 3:30 pm.

+Support Teen Literature Day is a part of National Library Week. This Thursday, April 14th, from 3:30-4:30, make a poster of your favorite book and share it in the Teenscape. Be a fan of the library on Facebook and tell us what you love about the library.

+Stephenie Meyer’s new book The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is being released on June 5th and is on order at your library. This title is based on the character from Eclipse and is a short book or novella. Place your hold online or give us a call!

Join us for the screening of “The Vampire’s Assistant” based on the Cirque du Freak novels by Darren Shan in the Teen’scape at 6:30 pm. This is a pretty creepy movie and I’ve read it described like “The Lost Boys” crossed with “The Goonies.” Sounds good!

College Goal Sunday

Free help in filling out the FAFSA document – which is required to receive state, federal and private college financial aid – will be offered at regional sites across Indiana.

“College Goal Sunday” will be held February 21, 2010, at 2p. Financial aid officers from dozens of Indiana colleges and universities will be available at 37 sites across the Hoosier State, providing free assistance in filling out the FAFSA document.

Parents and students should bring the same documents and information used to complete their federal tax return. The completed FAFSA will then be submitted on-line, and families will start receiving specific financial aid offers within two weeks.
