Win Free Writing Course

Posted by nchcplteens on December 29, 2008

The Simon and Shuster publishing house is sponsoring a writing contest.  You could get a call from Sonya Sones herself, and get your writing put up on her website!what_my_girlfriend_doesnt_know_by_sonya_sones Details from the publisher below:

Contest:

Tell us what you think happens after the ending of What My Girlfriend Doesn’t Know, and you could win a free writing class from Gotham Writers’ Workshop and Teen Ink! The winner will receive a personal call from Sonya Sones, and she’ll even post the winning entry on her website, SonyaSones.com! Ten runners-up will receive a year’s subscription to Teen Ink.

Here’s what you’ve got to do:

Read What My Girlfriend Doesn’t Know and, when you get to the very last poem, write a continuation of the story. But write this part of the saga from Sophie’s point of view. Tell us what happens next. Does Sophie stick to her guns? Does Tessa fight back? Does Dylan seek revenge? Does Robin get bitten by a vampire?

And, of course, write it in the same style as What My Girlfriend Doesn’t Know—in a series of poems.

To read the official rules, and find out how to enter, visit Writingclasses.com/SonyaContest.

No Purchase Necessary. Starts on 12/16/08 at 12:01 a.m. EST. Ends on 4/3/09 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Open to legal residents of the fifty United States and the District of Columbia who are 13-18 years of age. Void in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and where prohibited by law. Subject to official rules. For official rules, go to Writingclasses.com/SonyaContest.

Hot off the School Library Journal presses:

S&S Releases Secret Vampire Series

— School Library Journal, 12/3/2008

Secret Vampire, the first book of nine in L. J. Smith’s Night World series, can be freely downloaded until December 21. Night World is the secret society for vampires, werewolves, witches, and shape-shifters, and there are very strict rules—such as falling in love violates all of the Night World’s rules (especially if one of the lovers is a human). Sound familiar?
This downloads as a PDF file.  Get it while you can!  We also have a copy here at the library if you prefer to read it in paper form.
